Data Backup

MAXtech offers both cloud replication and cloud backup for clients.

Cloud Replication technology provides a reliable backup plan for data in the event of a catastrophic incident. This technology replicates or reproduces the servers and storage to an entirely different geographical area.

This allows the systems to failover and replicate at the new location within minutes, ensuring business continuity. This technology eliminates the need for an active-active configuration and is cost-effective.

Cloud backup can provide two general solutions.

The two solutions are backup and recovery of your local systems to a cloud-based system, or backup and recovery of your cloud-based systems to a cloud-based backup. Backup and recovery systems use point-in-time data, which means there is a limit on how many backups can be stored and for how long they can be stored (e.g., 1 backup per week for a total of 4 backups a month, with a limit of 50 backups saved).

This limitation affects the amount of backed-up data that can be restored. Most backup and recovery systems also use compression technologies that significantly reduce the amount of data stored, allowing for more backups to be saved.

Example of data backup and recovery of a local system to a cloud-based system.

A business might have several locations where each location has local production servers and on-site storage, making them susceptible to a disaster at any location. However, these locations could use cloud backup to safeguard their servers and storage from any type of disaster.

Each location would have their own data and records retention policy (an organization’s standard procedure/process for retaining data and information for compliance or business reasons) and would backup and restore independently from the other locations. In the event of a catastrophe, that location (or any location affected) could restore their data from the cloud.

3-2-1 Backup Procedures

We take data backups seriously. We’re a Veeam partner because we believe strongly in their software and ability to recover quickly as well as its ability to provide exactly what our clients need.

It’s not enough to just back your data up once and be done with it. You need to back your data up regularly, and you need to use the “3-2-1” back up strategy:

3: Keep 3 different copies of your backup at all times (e.g., cloud backup, hard disk drive, and USB drive).

2: Keep copies at 2 separate, secure locations (e.g., the office and the cloud data center).

1: Keep 1 offline copy (e.g., on a USB drive or air-gapped server).
